Sacred Places

~ Touched by God, nature, and the powers of the Universe – these are some of the most well-documented and sacred regions on earth.

~Heaven on Earth

Either through the grace of my work or on a self-gratifying pilgrimage of my own, I have had the greatest honor and most humbling experiences visiting many of the world’s most sacred and talked about places on earth. The miracles of Medjugorje, the energetic vortexes of Sedona, or the breathtaking vista of the pyramids – the world is full of wonder.

On this page I have gathered a very curated and extra special selection of unique and divine gifts that I have gotten from many of the sacred places I have visited and written about. You will find that these gifts have been blessed or graced by the individuals or groups that represent them. Here you will also find some great information on these locations along with the gifts I’m happy to share.

Top 10 Sacred Places from Lead Us To A Place

Spirituality can be found anywhere. You can experience it in a church or temple, in the beauty of nature, in a yoga, dance or exercise class, or in the darkest, most unlikely places. Spirituality is a state of mind. It is an experience that brings you closer to the realization of life’s truths. It can be found when facing fear, enjoying simplicities or contemplation from within. Here are some of the most Sacred places covered in this book:

Celtic Landscape

The Celts were a collection of tribes with origins in central Europe that shared a similar language, religious beliefs, traditions and culture. It’s believed that the Celtic culture started to evolve as early as 1200 B.C. The Celts spread throughout western Europe—including Britain, Ireland, France and Spain—via migration. Their legacy remains most prominent in their sacred places, natural monuments, burial sites.

Hawaiian Islands

Polynesians arrived between 940 and 1200 AD. Kamehameha I, the ruler of the island of Hawaii, conquered and unified the islands for the first time, establishing the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1795. An expedition led by British explorer James Cook reached the islands in 1778. American immigration, led by Protestant missionaries arrived and through death, fire, and traumatic growth Hawaii evolved into what it is today.

Exotic India

India has a rich and exotic history. The Indian subcontinent is the home of one of the world’s oldest and most influential civilizations. The Republic of India (free from British rule since August 15, 1947, celebrated as the country’s Independence Day) also includes the republics of Pakistan and Bangladesh. From the base of the Himalayas to the Sacred Ganges River, including Varanasi, they are important place of worship for Indians.

World Cities

From New York to Los Angeles, London to Paris, Fatima to Lourdes, the world is drawn closer together by the beautiful and history-filled locations in cities from around the world. From the White Cliffs of Dover to Apparition Hill in Medjugorje, sacred places abound, often putting the city on the proverbial “map.” Here is a list of cities that host world famous locations that are honored and sacred places.

Fatima

I found Fatima to be an awe inspiring place. It transports you back in time. It leaves you with a sense of caring, wonder and religious fervor.  The procession is a miraculous event that takes place each night, offering mass, the rosary and then the honoring of the Virgin with candles and song. Fatima is a place that offers you self discovery. It is a soul satisfying journey I would suggest to anyone wanting to learn more about themselves.

Lourdes

Since the time I was 14 and saw the movie, The Song of Bernadette, I was always enamored by the incredible life of Saint Bernadette Soubirous, who, from February to July 1858 in Lourdes, France, reported 18 visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Now, 34 years later, I booked a flight to Paris. On the eve of my birthday, June 21st, 2010, the summer solstice, we arrived in Lourdes.

Medjugorje

Medjugorje is a small mountain town located in western Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Herzegovina region, close to the border of Croatia. Since June 24, 1981, it has become a popular religious pilgrimage due to reports of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to six local children. Apparition Hill is where the Blessed Virgin Mary or Gospa, has been appearing to the six children, (the visionaries), since June 24, 1981.

Guadalupe

The Virgin of Guadalupe is the first visitation by the Virgin Mary occurring in the Tepeyac Hills of Mexico City, December 12, 1531. On the morning of December 9, 1531, Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin had turned his life to God after the death of his wife. It was his custom to attend Mass and catechism at the Church in Tlatelolco. At daybreak, on Saturday, December 9, 1531, Juan Diego began his journey to Church.

Mont Saint Michel

Mont Saint Michel is an island in Normandy, France. It is located off the country’s northwestern coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. Breathtaking and fascinating this sacred structure was built in the year 708 after St. Aubert, then bishop of Avranches was believed to be visited in a dream by Saint Michael. The bishop was commanded to build a shrine for him on the nearby rock in the sea called Mount Tombe.

Pink Moon Over Oaji

This was a surprising journey initiated by my dear friend and mentor Zachary Selig, one of the foremost theosophist and metaphysical painters of the Chakra Codex. We headed for the mystical town of Ojai, California. This vibrant place gained fame when the area was chosen to represent Shangri-La in the 1939 movie, The Lost Horizon. Nestled in the Ojai Valley, the town is surrounded by peaks that give off a glow in the evening light known as “the pink moment”.

Life on the Beach

I have traveled all over the world and have visited some of the most beautiful beaches; Phuket in Thailand, Hamoa Beach and the Big Beach in Maui, Kuta Beach in Bali and the sugary sand beaches of Cancun. Out of so many, there is only one that I always want to go back to. This sacred jewel situated between the mainland and the sea, is a strip of beach that is kissed by the warm Gulf Stream, which rises to meet the sand along Miami Beach.

Middle of the World

Approximately 16 miles north of Quito, Ecuador marks the exact Middle of the World (Mitad del Mundo), latitude 0 ° where you can stand with a foot on each hemisphere. The Equatorial Monument is a statuesque block monument with a globe perched at the top. Inside is a museum paying homage to the indigenous Ecuadorian cultures including descriptions of the various ethnic groups, clothing, articles and examples of their lifestyle.

Sensational Sunsets

You can certainly call me a sun worshiper.  Being born on the Summer Solstice, I have always been attracted to the warmth, power and glow of the sun!  In my travels, I tend to be an observer.  These particular instances occurred on my first trip to the Tuscon Gem and Mineral show in Arizona, my visit to the island of Santorini and my subsequent return to Los Angeles for a visit, after living and working there as a dancer and choreographer.

In the Footsteps of Mozart

Mozart had been in my life since I was 12, learning to play the piano and throughout my years as a classical dancer, but a little picture I found in my apartment made me start to look deeper at the man and his legendary status. It then became a dream of mine to visit some of the places Mozart lived, worked and made his mark. Born in Salzburg on January 27, 1756 I thought this is where the journey should begin.

Breakfast with Alice

On the upper east corner of East 74th Street in Manhattan, located just north of the Conservatory Water, is an eleven foot tall statue of Alice in Wonderland in bronze, surrounded by the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat along with the Dormouse and Alice’s cat, Dinah. Publisher and philanthropist George Delacorte commissioned the sculpture as a tribute to his late wife Margarita, and as a gift to the children of New York City.

Lunch with Allan Kardec

I love Paris. Perhaps it is because of it’s air of romanticism, amazing architecture or incredible history, it is a city that keeps me in awe, every time I revisit. This trip was extra special as we had a purpose and that was to have lunch with Allan Kardec. He is known today as the man who arranged Spiritism according to a system. He laid the foundation with the five books of the Gospel Explained by the Spiritist Doctrine.

Sedona: Vortex of Energy

There is no place quite like Sedona!  Sedona is an Arizona desert town near Flagstaff that’s surrounded by red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests. It’s noted for its mild climate and vibrant arts community. Sedona is a true oasis and vacationer’s paradise in the middle of the desert. When the sun dips down below the horizon it introduces the best show in Sedona: the night sky.

Santorini: The Real Atlantis?

Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption destroyed the earliest single island, and created the current geological caldera. A giant central, rectangular lagoon is surrounded by high, steep cliffs on three sides. Due to even more recent evidence, the island’s pre-eruption shape and landscape frescoes located under the ash, both strongly resemble Plato’s description of the lost city of Atlantis.

Bali and the Sacred New Year

Bali was a lush green island in the Indonesian archipelago. Known for its beautiful temples, beaches, and rain forests, it had a reputation for surfing, diving, and nightlife. By February in Asia, the Lunar New Year was the biggest holiday tradition of all. People would travel hundreds of miles to return home as the Far East would shut down in order to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Maui: Lahiana Banyan Tree

We walked the length of the park and reached the huge tree that spanned a quarter of a mile in circumference and possessed 16 trunks reaching down to the earth. These trunks then became a supportive pillar for the next generation of growth from its iron-like roots. You could sense the weight of its life span hanging heavy in its limbs. Big Steena had two hands on its massive trunk, head bowed, saying a prayer.
