Color Therapy

~ Color Therapy is a set of principles used to create harmonious color and color combinations for healing. This form of energy medicine is based on the belief that color is energy. The energy vibration of that color is what you need.

~Color is the “root” of life

Color therapy is rooted in history as far back as the Mayan culture. The Mayan culture worshiped the sun and based their lifestyles on the elements. These elements where a controlling force of nature and determined so much of their existence.

Color therapy is a technique of restoring imbalance by means of applying color to the body. It was a popular method of cure even in ancient times. Some 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras applied color light therapeutically and `color halls’ were used for healing in ancient Egypt, China and India.

Which Color Attracts You?

Primary Colors (red, yellow, blue) are the base on which all other colors come from. Primary colors are not a fundamental property of light, but are related to the physiological response of the eye to light.

Secondary Colors (orange, violet, and green) occur when you mix two primary colors together, 50% of one primary color and 50% of another primary color.

Additive color is color created by mixing a number of different light colors, with shades of red, green, and blue being the most common primary colors used in additive color system.

Additive color is in contrast to subtractive color, in which colors are created by subtracting (absorbing) parts of the spectrum of light present in ordinary white light, by means of colored pigments or dyes, such as those in paints, inks, and the three dye layers in typical color photographs on film.

Tertiary Colors are created when you combine a primary color with a secondary color. The Color Wheel describes the relationships between colors.

Between the primary and secondary colors the names are often associated with amber/marigold (yellow–orange), vermilion/cinnabar (red–orange), magenta (red–purple), indigo (blue–purple), turquoise/teal/aqua (blue-green), and chartreuse/lime green (yellow–green).

Healing With Color

There are numerous ways to heal and balance with color. A good rule of thumb is this: Energy follows thought. Where we put our thoughts, this is where the energy goes.

By concentrating on a particular healing color, it is the visualization of that color that will be projected. If we focus on a color, the energy emanates from our body and begins to change the frequency that resonates with that particular color. The color we need, is often the color we are drawn to. Be sure and find balance with the opposite color you are drawn to, as well.

Color Complements are Color Opposites

In the Color Wheel above, the color and their complements are on opposite sides of each other. These colors contrast each other as they help to make each other more active and more balanced. The following are the color with its complementary color:

Light Therapy

Light Therapy has been valued throughout history as a remarkable source of healing. Today, the therapeutic applications of light and color are being investigated in major hospitals and research centers worldwide. Results indicate that full-spectrum, ultraviolet, colored, and laser light can have therapeutic value for a range of conditions from chronic pain and depression to immune disorders.

The oldest form of light therapy is natural sunlight, which is the ultimate source of full-spectrum light. Discover healing light and color therapy for many different ailments…

Color from a Psychological Perspective

This color experience provides the opportunity to discover for yourself, the impact colors can have on your well-being. The need for a particular color’s vibration seems to differ from day to day or even from hour to hour. When you absorb a color vibration it travels, via the nervous system, to the part of the body that needs it. Each body has its own optimum state of well-being and is constantly seeking ways to maintain or restore a balanced state. Utilizing color, is one way you can help yourself to harmony.

Color In Your Home

Color is one of the easiest ways to introduce energy into your home space or office with the principles of Feng Shui. Color expresses our moods and can be used to help us sleep, increase conversation, calm our mind or rouse our libido. The elements of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood are used in specific areas according to the Feng Shui map or Bagua. Above are the colors to create a harmonious Feng Shui home. Choose the Feng Shui color according to the area or room you need help in.

Color Healing Tools

Natural crystals, colorful candles, healing flowers, essential oils, organic foods, full spectrum light and nature’s herbs are all tools that can be used when healing with color.  These modalities of healing are profound and are great integrative therapies that can be used in conjunction with many other forms of health care. The rays of the sun contain seven different colors – violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. These are natural colors, which are highly beneficial to the maintenance of health and for healing diseases.

Flower Power

“Flower Power” is not only a phrase from the 60’s associated with peace and the hippie movement, I find the phrase, itself empowering! The essence of flowers is a subtle, aromatic and volatile liquid extracted from the flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark and roots of herbs, bushes, shrubs and trees through distillation. It is a form of vibrational healing, which works on many levels.

Flower remedies are homeopathic essences, which benefit a specific mental and emotional state. Nature’s gift of flowers has become a billion dollar business, as well. Every holiday and birthday is associated with a month and certain flower, based on their growth/plant cycles, times of the year and other associations.

Color Divination Wheel

1. You may ask yourself a question that you would like answered. The more specific the question, the more sense the answer will make. If you choose not to ask a question, this will give you an indication as to what may be going on subconsciously.

2. Look at the color wheel and put your finger on the first color you are drawn to. (Do not think about it – look at the wheel and point. This is the color you need most, today. Look up what this color represents below.

3. Choose a number from 1-24   Now count clockwise, each square, with the number you chose. This will reveal a possible problem or difficulty you are encountering. Look up what this color represents.

4. Now count clockwise, each square, (from the color you are currently on) with the number you chose, again. This will tell you the possible solution for the future. Look up what this color represents:

Red: The need to keep your feet on the ground. Take action now. Do what is necessary. What is taking attention away from where it should be?
Pink: The need to take of yourself and look after yourself more. This is the color you need to smooth difficulties in relationships. Too critical. Overdoing it on every level in every relationship…love, family, friends. What are you at the expense of your health?
Purple: The need for self healing, purification, meditation, psychic work. You are looking into the subconscious with this color. Pay attention to your health. Are there headaches, mental illness, hair problems or sleep problems. What are you sacrificing to appear the “good guy”?
Light Blue: The need to talk to those around you. Discover what your thinking by verbalizing your thoughts, ideas, dreams. Communication is the realization of dreams. Speak your intentions. What is it you need to express to others?
Indigo: or Dark Blue  shows you have a need for peace and quiet and time on your own. Take it. Allow it. This color will help you. Meditate with it. You are so close to something that you cannot truly see what it is. What is it?
Turquoise: The need to put into words, exactly what you are feeling. Your vast thinking is like the openness of the sky and breathe of the ocean. Refine the idea of these feelings and express them. Learn what makes you special. What are your strengths?
Green: The need for a fresh perspective. Gain this by being out in open, green spaces. This color will help you. Get closer to nature. You will find help with money, luck, prosperity, grounding and balance, when you do this. What is restricting you?
Chartreuse: or Olive Green shows you the need to reassess where you are going. Take a look at what could be your future, from where you stand now. This should tell you where you should be going. What is restricting you?
Yellow: This shows you the need for inspiration, visualization and the need to regain you own personal power. Start thinking clearly. Allow this color to help you. Allow control. Be rational. Be strong. What is it you are afraid of?
Orange: The need for warm communication and self esteem. Use this color to let go of the old…ideas, emotions, things you do not need in your life anymore. What are you allowing to block your way?
Gold: This shows the need to relax and enjoy life. Use this color to see your value and what you are worth to yourself emotionally and what you offer to others, which make them rich in values. What is making you doubt your true self?
Amber: or Yellow-Orange: This shows the desire for harmony in your life. This is the balance between being grounded and being centered. This color signifies appreciation, seeking togetherness, sincerity and gratitude. What is tipping you off balance?

Do we dream in color?

***Remember, this is a guideline. As in life and regards to our circumstances, “everything is relative” ~one thing can only be looked at in relationship to something else. Several of the colors have dual meanings which makes the interpretation even more subjective. It is always a good idea to look at ideas or concepts in pairs. In the way they may relate or not, to one another. Keep an open mind. An open mind allows ideas and images to soar with freedom and may increase our understanding that much more!

Dreams and Color

When it comes to dreaming in color or black and white, science is still divided. Some scientists believe that 80% of our dreams are in color. They believe that these dreams of color happen later in the sleep cycle while black and white dreams occur earlier in the sleep stage. Others believe we never dream in black and white and believe that it is biologically impossible.

The colors in dreams convey different ideas based on our cultural differences. Although, universal dreams occur in all cultures, they express different meanings. Symbolism, (that right brain activity), color and interpretation are ultimately best transcribed by the individual. Some of the folklore on the symbolism of color and dreams can be an interesting discovery. Below is a list of color and their interpretations.

*White– success, awakening of spirituality, higher self learning.
*Dark Purple– success in social affairs, psychic ability, clarity.
*Lavender– temporary unhappiness or disappointment.
*Blue– freedom from worry, help from others.
*Green– travel or news, knowledge, understanding, learning, peace.
*Pink– success, softness, flowing love, lack of fear.
*Yellow– setback or struggle, and happiness or new beginnings.
*Orange– Increased awareness, an urge to hurry or delay.
*Red– rage, anxiety, increased self-esteem, warning, controlling.
*Brown– luck with money, abundance, fullness or confusion.
*Black– trouble or difficulties, Protection absorbing, taking in.
*Multicolored– increased sense of security.

The Aura Body

The aura bio-sphere or the color energy that surrounds us, are ever changing based on how we are “inside ourselves.” Physical, mental, and emotional situations show through the colors of our Aura. The word “aura” is but another name for “forcefield” or “radiation.” An aura is a field of subtle, luminous energy surrounding a person or object. The aura has layers and they reflect our emotions as well as our health. Every substance in the Universe has a radiation or aura and the auras of minerals, plants, animals, as well as human bodies have special characteristics.
