One of the most impressive and mysterious cathedral in France, Chartres is a fascinating place of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary. Rich in symbolism dating back to the pre-Christian era, it is believed to be built on an ancient Druid ritual mound that was once a green forest at the top of the hill with a grotto beneath, referred to as the Pregnant Virgin.
Inside the cathedral is one of the most breathtaking labyrinth, situated on the floor of the nave. It is an exact match in size and location to the famous Rose Window that glows from the western wall of the cathedral above. I have had these pendants blessed in holy water from within the cathedral.
