Black Energy

An absence of color, leaves us with black. This Achromatic color (devoid of light) shows us a powerful color associated with elegance, protection, violence, magic, witchcraft or death. In color therapy it is used as a beneficial color for grounding, protection, shielding, stabilizing and rooting energy into the earth.

Your perception of black, may surprise you! Black has a both negative and positive connotation. It can be understood to represent sadness, grief or mourning. On the opposite end, it can be seen as a protective, safe and buffering color. Black is associated with fine quality, elegance and high fashion. It is also considered to  represent strength, power, and authority.

In using black, it can connect us to a spiritual side that is more dark and mysterious. Or, it can protect us from this. The nature of black energy is to connect our beings with the Cosmic Universe, from the interstellar to the cellular. It is associated with Universal expanse of space and the possibilities that lay waiting in the foretold future.

Black can represent an outcast or refer to power of the governments. It can be a “list” of people or organizations to boycott, avoid, or destroy. Black can be used to refer to a bad guy or a playboy or used to obtaining something by threat. Black is used in a term meaning a loss of electricity, visibility, or loss of consciousness. It is also used to refer to the illegal trade of goods or money.

It is only how your perceive it! Night is the quiet, peaceful time, as it opposes the day and its busy, energetic process. Night, which is Yin in nature, represents the cooling, contracting, passive, languid, inward, and heavier aspects. The night time feels as if it is slow moving and contracts inward. “Black as night” , “pitched black” and “black wash” is a term required for all other colors to have depth and variation of hue.

“The new moon” is considered the time of birthing. Birthing new ideas, intention and seeding new ventures. This is also called the dark of the moon. This time also marks the beginning of a major new cycle in your life.  The other time a moon is black is during a solar eclipse, when the moon passes in front of the sun. Both of these occurrences are considered a time of new beginnings, setting a new intention or starting a new project.

What’s Your Mood?

Being in a “black or grey mood” are often feelings associated with grief, depression or sadness.  This is also associated with the “winter blues” or SAD (seasonal affective disorder), starting in the Fall and continue into the winter months, zapping our energy and making us feel moody. When there is an excess of black energy, emotional detachment, cold emotions or aloofness can occur. White light or sunlight is the solution.

Lessons from Black

From midnight to charcoal, black runs the spectrum from jet to ebony!  In theory, mixing equal amounts of cyan, magenta, and yellow should produce shades of grey, resulting in black when all three are fully saturated, but in practice they tend to produce muddy brown colors. For this reason, a fourth “primary” pigment, black, is often used in addition to the cyan, magenta, and yellow colors.

Intuition allows us a sense of “knowing” and can be helpful by opening our mind up to a calm space.
