Quartz

Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth’s crust, second only to feldspar. It is chemically composed of silica or silicon dioxide. Quartz has deposits widely distributed across all continents. Silicon is present everywhere. Human and animal bodies hold silica in little amount. Plants and vegetable also contain some amount of silica. Our body requires this mineral for its strength and stability.

Metaphysically, it is the one crystal that everyone can relate to.  Quartz is the Master Healer and the “stone of power”. Probably the most versatile multipurpose healing stone. It is easy to clean, stores information (energy) within, programs or amplify energy very well and is used as a healing instrument. The natural tendency for quartz is for harmony. Quartz can both draw and send energy therefore, it is effective for sending/receiving guidance. Quartz is used for transformation in healing and in all levels of change (mentally/emotionally, physically and spiritually).

Folk Remedies: Quartz can be used to facilitate both speaking and receiving information from the spiritual world, masters, teachers and healers. Stimulates positive thought and healing. Quartz is considered Yin or Androgynous. Quartz is often used in healing remedies such as crystal elixirs or solarized water, in clusters during meditation, in reiki grids or laying of stones in a web around you. They are used to clean the aura and balance chakra energies.

Feng Shui: Quartz can be used anywhere that balance or cleansing is needed. Use quartz in the Center area for grounding, balance, good health, spirituality and protection. Use in the West area for projects and creativity.

Crystal Cleansing: method 1 – 8

History: Quartz (SiO2) is considered solidified light and oxygen. Quartz encompasses a large family of stones and crystals, all of which are made up primarily of silicon dioxide, one of the most common and most important substances in the world. Crystals of pure quartz, generally six-sided, can be found in all shades and colors. Quartz crystals grow singularly or in groups and take on different shapes according to the temperature at the time of their formation. Quartz crystals can also contain other minerals “frozen” within, as in Rutilated Quartz. Quartz can form a huge variety of aggregates, clusters, gravel, sand and single stones. Quartz can be smoky, milky white to clear as water. Quartz was used as tools and weapons early in history and are now used worldwide in watches, appliances and technology!

Quartz can be formed of microscopic crystals and take on entirely different appearances and qualities. Other members of the Quartz family include Chalcedony, Agate, Amethyst, Aventurine, Carnelian, Citrine, Herkimer Diamonds, Jasper, Onyx, Sardonyx and Tiger’s Eye. These are treated separately because their healing qualities are very different from crystal or “rock” quartz.

Aventurine & Prasiolite

Aventurine can be found in several colors. The name aventurine derives from the Italian “a ventura” meaning “by chance“. This is an allusion to the lucky discovery of aventurine  glass or goldstone at some point in the 18th century.  Aventurine is characterised by translucency and the presence of mineral inclusions that give a shimmering or “drewsy” effect called aventurescence. Prasiolite (or vermarine) is the green quartz.

Aqua Aura & Chelcedony

Clear quartz with metallic light blue tint from electrical infusion of gold (amplifies quartz conductivity). Created by treating crystals of natural quartz with an infusion of pure gold called Aqua AuraChalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica consisting of fine inter-growths of both quartz, and its monoclinic polymorph moganite.

Red & White

Strawberry quartzRose quartz and Harlequin quartz: all have varying degrees of red and white, making a unique blend of two minerals on either end of the light spectrum and are used for balance, energy and vitality. Harlequin quartz provide a beautiful “dancing” energy. Strawberry quartz stimulates energy flow on all levels, while rose quartz fills us with love and the ability for self-love.

Carnelian & Tangerine

Carnelian is a brownish-red to orange mineral which is associated with precision, sacral wisdom and emotional connections. Similar to carnelian is Sard, which is generally harder and darker. Both carnelian and sard are varieties of the silica mineral chalcedony colored by impurities of iron oxide. Tangerine quartz is colored by a thin coating of iron oxides, which also gives it that deep orange glow.

Citrine & Golden Quartz

Citrine is a variety of quartz whose color ranges from a pale yellow to brown due to ferric impurities. Natural citrines are rare; most commercial citrines are heat-treated amethysts or smoky quartz. The name is derived from the Latin word citrina which means “yellow” and the origin of “citron”, famous as a “merchant stone“. Golden quartz, golden healers and rutilated quartz are forms of quartz with hints of rutile, iron oxide coating in between or underneath layers of crystal.

Amethyst

Amethyst is a popular form of quartz that ranges from a lilac to dark purple. This stone of psychic stimulation and dream recall is infamous. It is also a known as a famous detoxing stone and helpful with additions.Sometimes amethyst and citrine are found growing in the same crystal and referred to as ametrine. An amethyst is formed when there is iron in the area where it was formed.

Azeztulite

This stone is referred to as the stone of the Nameless Light. The name Azeztulite is derived from Azez, an angelic entity or group that is believed to be inter-dimensional beings, which seem to hover over many major power vortexes on Earth. Azeztulite’s vibrations are intended to be received on all levels of our being, from the etheric body throughout the physical organs, and into our cellular structure. It radiates a pleasant feeling of joy and confident serenity. It brings it’s higher frequencies down to earth to assist in spiritual evolution.

Clear, White, Frozen, Phantom or Tourmalinated

From “crystal clear” to “frozen”, milky white or with a variety of inclusion, the less clear it becomes the more it takes on the properties (and benefits) of the other minerals being included!  The clearer the quartz the more useful and valuable it is. The cloudiness of milky quartz or snow white quartz comes from microscopic inclusions of fluids that have been encased in the crystal. Milky quartz is often responsible for the cloudy phantoms inside of otherwise clear rock quartz, amethyst, citrine or smoky quartz.

Phantom Quartz: are naturally occurring inclusions in quartz crystal! Phantom quartz crystals are said to help one understand the various stages in life that we all transition through. They are said to be an excellent tool for meditation and for remembrance of past lives. These crystals help to recover repressed memories in order to put the past into perspective. A phantom crystal symbolizes universal awareness. These are crystals that at one point finished their growth cycle, then began growing again later. When looking inside these crystals, you can see a striation that indicates where the original tip was. The effect results in a crystal within a crystal or “ghostly vision”, therefore, its name, phantom quartz. For someone drawn to this type of stone, a need for growth is indicated.

Herkimer Diamond

Herkimer diamonds are not actually diamonds, but are double-terminated quartz crystals of exceptional clarity (water-clear) discovered within exposed outcrops of dolostone in and around Herkimer County, New York and the Mohawk River Valley. Considered a “Dream stone“, they are used in meditation or under your pillow to enhance visualization, astral travel into the light and dream recall. Most effective on the Brow and Crown Chakra therefore, this stone shifts the brain powerfully into alpha/deep stillness.

A Variety of Quartz Healing Tools

By Healing & Harmony

The natural tendency for quartz is for harmony. Quartz can both draw and send energy therefore it is effective for sending/receiving guidance.  Quartz is used for transformation in healing and in all levels of change (mentally/emotionally, physically and spiritually).

Quartz vibrates or resonates with our energy and helps to bring balance to an agitated aura or an under-performing persona. It follows the law of entrainment, and therefore, brings your energy to meet its energy.

Quartz is often used in healing remedies such as crystal elixirs or solarized water, in clusters during meditation, in reiki grids or laying of stones in a web around you. They are used to clean the aura and balance chakra energies.

Quartz Elixir

A crystal elixir or gem essence combines the energy of your crystal that is infused in either water or oil. It is often placed in the sun in order for the crystal to imbue the water or oil with the crystal’s energy or Qi and then the decoction is used for healing and anointing.

Quartz is by far, one of the best varieties of stones to use for elixirs, the most safe and versatile. Here is what you need: A glass container filled with about 12 ounces of water. If you are going to be placing your essence outside, be sure to cover it.

Cleansing & Charging Quartz

~ Cleansing a crystal is always a good idea to rid it of energies (negative or otherwise) that it may have picked up during handling and excessive use.

~ Charging a crystal is bringing its energy levels back up, after use and cleansing. Like re-charging a battery after it has lost its energy.  A great way to do this (and remind you that it is time to do so) is during a full moon.

The Power of Color

Color plays a major role in determining how your crystal can help you.  A crystal’s color is due to its combination of minerals, which give it it’s own personality.  It contributes in what attracts you to it.  The psychological aspects of color determine how a crystal’s healing properties work.
