Description
Vilcabamba is a village in the southern region of Ecuador, in Loja Province, about 28 mi from the city of Loja. The etymology of the name “Vilcabamba” apparently derives from the Quichua “huilco pamba.” Huilco denotes the sacred trees, Anadenanthera colubrina, that inhabit the region; pamba (cognate with pampa) is a word meaning “a plain”.
The area has been referred to as the “Playground of the Inca” which refers to its historic use as a retreat for Incan royalty. The valley is overlooked by a mountain called Mandango, the “Sleeping Inca”, whose presence is said to protect the area from earthquakes and other natural disasters. Located in a historical and scenic valley, it is a common destination for tourists, in part because it is widely believed that its inhabitants grow to a very old age.
Locals assert that it is not uncommon to see a person reach 100 years of age and it is claimed that many have gotten to 120, even up to 135, which would make it an area with the oldest inhabitants in the world. It is often called the “Valley of Longevity.”
This rock quartz crystal has microscopic water bubbles and inclusions of carbon dioxide. This gives the stone its “snowy”, white, or “milky” appearance. Vilcabamba quartz is the Longevity Stone. Like the introspective and contemplative time of winter, this unique stone allows us to notice more the actions around us, both good and bad, helping us to perhaps see ourselves a little better. It can help us to meditate on parts of our personality that we admire and those we need to change. Compelling us from thought to action.
Vilcabamba quartz represents the wonder and innocence of pure snow. It gives us the hopefulness of a new bride on her wedding day and the child-like innocence we all should remember. It is also associated with the white-haired sage, filled with good advice and wisdom, who need not constantly express it, but to just “be” with it. Therefore, the stone represents a gentle calm and soothing stone useful for meditation and the seeking of wisdom or truth through our “inner journey”.
Please note: these are beautiful hand picked pieces I have gathered from the river beds along the mountain. They are a beautiful white sheer finish and some have streaks of sliver, gold, hematite or rainbows!
These are rough stones measuring 1″ – 1 1/4″ inches. Each stone is different and unique. Andrew will choose the right one for you! We include a color coordinated pouch, cleansing/caring instructions, methods for use and metaphysical properties.
