Unakite

Properties: We often think of our emotions as originating and residing in the heart and mind, and Unakite can soothe any Heart Chakra issue because of both its green and pink colors. But, another place where our emotions formulate, often imprisoned, is in the Solar Plexus. This “plexus’ of nerves that reside under the sternum, are not only considered our “gut feelings”, but is physically a super highway of on and off ramps for the physical flow of our bodily processes. As young children, discouraged away from the full expression of our emotions, we learn that shallow breathing helps us not “to feel” as much. The repression of feelings can become automatic, and life, while perhaps less painful, also has less joy.

Unakite can be very helpful in the steady release of feelings long held in. An opaque coral pink and olive-green stone (two colors associated with the heart), Unakite consists of three minerals: feldspar, epidote, and quartz. When one is supported by deepened self-esteem and self-awareness, it is easier to allow old feelings to arise so that they may be released. Epidote, which derives from the Greek word epididonai meaning “to give additionally,” will indeed give additional support to one’s heart and balance the functions of these internal body processes. This stone can help those who suffer from stress, allowing these individuals the peace of mind and ability to get a good night sleep. It is also believed to help release conditions which have been inhibiting personal growth.

Folk Remedies: Unakite lends another element to self-awareness. In working with this stone people have noticed that they were able to go deeper than the physical symptoms of an illness and understanding the mental and emotional sources for it.

Feng Shui: This stone is often used in the Southwest corner of the home for matters related to the Heart and Relationships. (Be sure and use 2 stones here), use in the northeast area for Skills & Knowledge or in the north Family area for peace of mind.

Crystal Cleansing: method 1 – 3 and method 5 – 7

History: Unakite ( was first discovered in the United States in the Unakas mountains of North Carolina from which it gets its name. Unakite exists in various shades of green and pink and is usually mottled in appearance. Unakite can be found as pebbles and cobbles from glacial drift in the beach rock on the shores of Lake Superior. It also occurs in Virginia where it is found in the river valleys after having been washed down from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Unakite is not limited to the United States, and has also been reported in South Africa, Sierra Leone, Brazil, and China.

The Union of Two

Unakite has the special ability to bring together and transform 2 energies, which need to be together. Perhaps it has gotten this reputation by the melding of two powerful minerals. This stone is the integrator of:

~ emotions and the heart
~ our feeling and the solar plexus
~ the union of two people
~ the coming together of heart and mind
~ the molding of body and spirit.

It is also believed to help release conditions which have been inhibiting your personal growth.

Unakite Elixir

A crystal elixir or gem essence combines the energy of your crystal that is infused in either water or oil. It is often placed in the sun in order for the crystal to imbue the water or oil with the crystal’s energy or Qi and then the decoction is used for healing and anointing.

Here is what you need: A glass container filled with about 12 ounces of water. If you are going to be placing your essence outside, be sure to cover it.   Read more here

Cleansing & Charging Unakite

~ Cleansing a crystal is always a good idea to rid it of energies (negative or otherwise) that it may have picked up during handling and excessive use.

~ Charging a crystal is bringing its energy levels back up, after use and cleansing. Like re-charging a battery after it has lost its energy.  A great way to do this (and remind you that it is time to do so) is during a full moon.

The Power of Color

Color plays a major role in determining how your crystal can help you.  A crystal’s color is due to its combination of minerals, which give it it’s own personality.  It contributes in what attracts you to it.  The psychological aspects of color determine how a crystal’s healing properties work.
