Pyrite

Properties: One of the most grounding stones in use today, pyrite is a conducting, energizing stone that sparks when hit against metal or another stone. It has been used for centuries to increase wealth. It is effective in attracting money to its owner. Used this stone for focus, practicality, and logic. It has been used over the centuries for boosting memory, clearing fuzzy thinking, and scattered thoughts.

This grounding stone is associated with the Root Chakra, the Spleen/Sacral Chakra and the Solar Plexus Chakra. It is useful in helping one to understand (and see) illusions/lack of clarity about situations/people. Great for grounding the Third Eye Chakra after meditation/psychic readings/astral travel. The most important gift of pyrite, though, is its ability to assist in a mental capacity.

The stimulation of the mind can be enhanced by using pyrite in conjunction with fluorite and calcite. Helps to balance creative energy with intuitive impulse. Opens communication skills. Strongly suggested for people who tackle large conceptual ideas in business, the arts, or education. Pyrite relieves frustration and anxiety by boosting self worth, confidence and trust. It is a stone of recognition. Helping us to realize just who we are by encouraging self worth. This stone represents the sun’s golden energy, therefore, bringing positive energy. This extremely positive stone ignites our potential, improves our inertia and feelings of inferiority.

History: Pyrite, also called iron pyrite, is an iron sulfide (FeS2). This mineral’s metallic luster and pale brass yellow color gives it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of fool’s gold. This glittering stone was notoriously mistaken by naive prospectors as real gold. Found in most of North America, as well as in Chile and Peru. The color has also led to the nicknames brass, brazzle, and Brazil, (along with the stone of fire) is primarily used to refer to pyrite found in coal. Pyrite remains in commercial use for the production of sulfur dioxide, for use in such applications as the paper industry, and in the manufacture of sulfuric acid. A commercial use for pyrite is seen in the cathode material in Energizer brand non-rechargeable lithium batteries. Pyrite usually forms cuboid crystals, but, under certain circumstances, it can form T shaped crystals. Pyrite can also form dodecahedral crystals. It also forms flat, radial disks called “sun disks” or “sun dollars”. It is distinguishable from native gold by its hardness, brittleness and crystal form. Natural gold tends to be irregularly shaped, whereas pyrite comes as either cubes or multifaceted.

Cleansing & Charging Pyrite

~ Cleansing a crystal is always a good idea to rid it of energies (negative or otherwise) that it may have picked up during handling and excessive use.

~ Charging a crystal is bringing its energy levels back up, after use and cleansing. Like re-charging a battery after it has lost its energy.  A great way to do this (and remind you that it is time to do so) is during a full moon.

Crystal Cleansing: No water near this stone. Cleanse this stone in dry sea salt and charge with method 8

The Power of Color

Color plays a major role in determining how your crystal can help you.  A crystal’s color is due to its combination of minerals, which give it it’s own personality.  It contributes in what attracts you to it.  The psychological aspects of color determine how a crystal’s healing properties work.
