Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway) is the ancient Chinese art of placement to enhance the flow of “vital life energy” known as Qi. Practitioners believe that rooms, buildings and all environments can be arranged and decorated in a way that maximizes the flow of Qi and, resulting in improvements to health and happiness of those who live in that environment. Although the translation of Feng Shui basically means “Wind and Water“, its scope and breathe are much deeper than this.

As a practitioner of Feng Shui and Traditional Chinese medicine for over 15 years, I have learned and continue to marvel at the beautifully poetic approach, Asian cultures see life. Tenets such as the Five Folds of Happiness, which include luck, prosperity, longevity, happiness, and wealth or the Five Virtues of Humanity, including wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage. These simple (on the surface) mantra are also approaches to embracing our lives.

In the Feng Shui paradigm, the flow of energy in your home and office tend to bring these enigmatic axioms to a balancing point. A grid or baqua is looked at (layed out) over the blueprint of your home or office. By lining up the bottom half of the baqua with your front door (looking inward) the bagua areas fall into all sections of your space.

In Feng Shui, prosperity is not just money. Although, money is a portion of what prosperity is, good fortune, good perspective, they way you look at life and the approach taken to embracing each day, has as much to do with gaining prosperity. I like to call it the “prosperity perspective“.   Our outlook on our current situation and our future abundance, depends very much at how you look at life.  Negativity tends to block any positive actions that may occur. Even when a positive result happens, if you are constantly playing good results down or are not able to appreciate a simple gesture, than prosperity can elude you.  Change your attitude, change your life!

” Prosperity isn’t about what you have or own, but what you feel about what you have or own.”

The flow of energy you can control in your life, as well.  Look at the bagua map. Your front door should line up with the black, Career area, facing the map into your home.  At the main entrance, keep it wide open and clear of obstruction. The energy coming should be free flowing and welcoming. Your door should swing open all the way without being blocked by anything in front or behind it. If there is glass in your front door, keep it clean. If the hinges squeak, oil them.

Money With Coins

Since the number three is key to wealth in Feng Shui, it represents the union of heaven, earth and man. The red thread activates the Yang energies of the coins.  Hang three Chinese coins, tied together with red ribbon, on the door handle on the inside of your main door. Tie the coins together with red string or thread in 8-inch increments to activate the prosperity already inside.

Tie three coins with 8-inch cut red thread and put them in each wallet or purse. This activates a belief in an abundant source of income.

Tape three coins tied with red thread, Yang side up, to your most important financial files in your office. The Yang side has four characters on the coin, rather than two characters, which is the Yin side. Placing the coins there will ensure your cash flow stays healthy throughout the New Year.

Water, Health and Wealth

The water element is the greatest connection to prosperity, since it is “what flows” in our lives. A tabletop fountain with the soothing sound of moving water is the appropriate remedy. Whether on a desk, in the front entrance, in the kitchen or in the bedroom; nothing attracts wealth and good luck like a water fountain. Water is the element of the Career area of the bagua.  It is also at the front door.  Consider adding a tabletop fountain just inside your front door or foyer.

Water fountains that pool water symbolize pooling wealth. The water element is about the flow of energy, clarity and attracts Qi, life force energy. Qi enhances health and prosperity. Turn the fountain so that the water flows to the center of the room or environment for maximum results, this brings Qi and good luck into the home or office. Running water helps move positive energy through the space. It is extremely soothing, very calming and sets a nice ambiance for any room.

Abundance, Luck For Home or Office

Bring abundance by placing bells on the door handle on the inside or outside of your main door of your home or office. If you do not have Chinese coins, bells work very well.  If your bells have coins attached to them, even better.  Symbolically, the sound of bells ringing announces the coming of good news and prosperity. Choose small bells made of metal, ceramic or crystal bells. When you use bells as a Feng Shui cure, you should tie them together with red thread or red ribbon. Tying the bells together with red string or thread activates the good luck remedy and sets in motion the symbolic value.

Empower Your Surroundings with Crystals

Enhance mental clarity of mind and expand your thoughts by hanging a faceted crystal ball in the knowledge bagua (see map) of your home, office or bedroom, or one in each place. For a richer effect, hang your crystal with a fishing line and add a red ribbon, cut to a multiple of 9″ in length.

Enhance your career with a crystal over your sitting position. Hang it over your head where you sit at your desk. This cure protects you from attack and stimulates an expansion of knowledge and ideas, including clearer thinking, better decisions.

Feng Shui pouches can show you that by placing a particular stone in the four corners of your room can enhance inner growth, peace and deeper sleep and abundance. This cure promotes ease in falling asleep, peaceful dreams, calmness and mental freedom.

The Wealth and Prosperity Area

Looking at your map, facing into your home or office, the Wealth/Prosperity area is against the far wall in the top corner. This Southeast area can be enhanced by using blues, purples and/or reds. Consider a sofa, curtains, a throw or blanket in this area. It is always a good idea to express, in some way, the energy of wealth and abundance,in this area- from material wealth to the wealth of all the numerous blessings in your life.

This is an excellent place for the Water element, as well. Your fountain can work will in this area or images or art, representing water.  It is also a great place to have a (constantly clean) aquarium with moving water and live fish.

The wood element is also key here.  Bamboo, wooden frames (perhaps with a waterfall picture) wooden tables or chairs, or a wooden bowls with fresh fruit is another idea.

So in closing, gaining prospective on your prosperity is the most important outlook you can have.  Freeing up the space around you of clutter (and within your life) can open you up to even further possibilities of prosperity.

“Remember, a rich and positive mind, attracts a rich and positive life.”
