What is often called the sixth sense, intuition can be defined as “the ability to sense or know immediately without reasoning”. We all have hunches, gut feelings, or intuitive insight. The feeling one gets when first hearing about something or someone, or the first impression when we meet someone new…these are all simply our intuition.

Intuition is often considered the ability to synthesize and deduce from all of our accumulated unconscious experiences. Therefore, we “know” much more than we realize. It is also through the perception of our (other) five senses, which, allows us to “tune in” to our intuition. Those who pay attention can find intuition a useful tool in their lives.

The Intuitive Learning Process

There are three stages our mind goes through in learning to comprehend a situation or idea:

Sensory perception is the process of discerning and decipher information we receive in the cerebral cortex from the lower sensory or motor neurons. It is the understanding and interpreting of information from what we sense, touch, smell, hear or see. From this information, we deduce what the mind interprets based on our knowledge of signs, symbols and what our mind recalls. Then, you should ask yourself, “is it the perceived notion of what feels good? Is it the intuitive act of what you know in your heart?” I had a teacher who answered that question by asking, “is there a presence or absence of harmony around the situation?”

Surrender is the action of yielding one’s person or giving up the possession of something or into the power of another. By letting go, it leaves us exposed, opened, vulnerable, and defenseless. Only by surrendering, are we completely and fully able to allow the Universe to take over and truly lead us to the most natural and simple path. By allowing this path of least resistance into your life, you receive what is intended! Use your tools of love, gratitude, and assurance to trust your perception. When the choice seems effortless, inspiring, associated with synchronicity, clarity or a profound sense of peace, surrendering to it is the only and best choice available.

Illumination is receiving power! There is nothing more enlightening than looking at something you do not understand or quit comprehend until that moment when suddenly, it becomes so very clear to you, that you just cannot believe you did not see it in the first place! This self-discovery or illumination we experience is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. There is no personal agenda or hidden reasoning behind the illumination, as it is a product of pure clarity, harmony, and profound peace. This is due, in many ways, to our sensory perceptions, which takes place in this discovery process and the ability to allow ourselves to surrender.

These 3 stages of enlightenment show us how our mind (and body) process the messages we receive. It’s up to you to trust them.
