Amethyst contains the grounding color of red with the energy of blue, which is expanding, spacious and flow of peace.

Amethyst is the color that you see in the sky as twilight transitions into night. Amethyst takes you on this transition from the magic time of dusk to a conscious shift into a different place. Crossing this threshold is the lesson of humility, which Amethyst can teach us. A wonderful companion for grief, this stone can show us how to let go, trust and surrender so that you may see beyond the cycle that consumes your attention; give it all up, so that you can receive more; and appreciate that you may become a part of the greater whole. Folk Remedies: This crystal is the most recommended stone for stress relief, detoxing and addictions. Amethyst has a direct link to the mind. It bolsters the production of the hormones, and strengthens the cleansing organs, the circulatory system and blood, the immune system, and body metabolism. Beneficial for asthma. Headaches, eyes, scalp/hair, pituitary, pineal and blood sugar balance. Famous ancient detoxifying stone. Especially helps in sobriety, as well as alcohol, food, sex and other addictions. Goals are clearer, more realistic, and easier to achieve. However, you must use this stone cautiously with subjects who have paranoid or schizoid tendencies. Can benefit people with insomnia or troubled sleep. Ideal for those who meditate. Promotes selflessness. History: Amethyst belongs to the Quartz family (SiO2 + Fe), found in Brazil, Canada, Sri Lanka, and parts of East Africa. Color varies from a deep violet to a pale lavender, almost to the point of being clear. Known as the prize stone since the days of ancient Egypt, Amethyst holds an honored place in the Crown Jewels of England, frequently known as the “Rose de France”, a popular jewelry item during the Victorian age and worn by every Pope since the sixteenth century.

Also called Cape Amethyst or Banded Amethyst, this stone encourages relaxation and peace of mind. Chevron amethyst is said to bring out our courage and inner strength and therefore, helping us to initiate our own journey of self-discovery. Known to decrease our own sabotaging resistance and assist in the consciousness of our own self-awareness. Chevron amethyst is associated with the Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra, stimulating our psychic intuition and transcending it to our Universal “crown energy” where we can make the most use of the information.  See also Auralite (a familiar cousin). It is also believed to diminish addictive tendencies and assists in recovery better than just amethyst or quartz alone, since it is a wonderful marriage of the two. This stone lends itself to spiritual support, healing awareness and insightful information.

Auralite

Or Auralite 23 is considered the “stone of peace and tranquility”. Rich in (now what is believed to be) 35 elements making up 17 different minerals, it therefore, can engage all 7 major Chakras as well as, the minor Chakra above the head and below the feet. Bringing about heightened awareness, this stone makes us conscious of how quiet and calm our mind can be, when we let go and allow this to happen. Its multi-layered mineral pattern makes these stones powerful synergism of different energies and a strong emotional healer. I have even heard this stone nicknamed the “soul healer”. It is also sold under the name of Auralite Amethyst or the Kindred Spirit Stone. Placed within range of the aura, it can disperse unwanted thought patterns, unnecessary worry, regret and negative energies that affect us emotionally.

When placed along the lower spine or Root Chakra, this stone awakens and opens our kundalini energies, allowing it to rise to the Crown in order to release a burst of “serpent-like” power, awareness and understanding. This brings balance to both sides of the nadis. One’s life force is said to travel throughout the body in energetic pathways called “nadis”. Where the nadis intersect, they form a “Chakra”. Often used as a spiritual healing tool, Auralite ignites the Third Eye increasing our psychic capacity, engaging better sensitivity and providing the spark of intuition to see into a higher plane of consciousness. It “opens the eye” to insightful truth and visions. Use this stone to connect with angels and spirit guides, assisting with astral travel as well as, lucid dreaming. Use this stone to generate a peaceful, meditative state.

Auralite 23 (Si, O, Fe and S) is mainly a constitution of Chevron amethyst and hematite. It comes from the Boreal Forest in Thunder Bay in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is believed to be the crash site of several meteorites containing rare metallic ores, which hit the Earth during the Meso-proterozoic age. Over time, these rare metallic ores dissolved, leeching into the earth creating what is now known as auralite. When the stone was recently discovered, it was believed to contain 23 minerals within.

Testing by the GIA with x-ray diffraction concluded that there are 35 elements composing 17 different minerals in auralite. These elements are l Silver (Ag), Gold (Au), Aluminum (Al), Barium (Ba), Beryllium (Be), Bismuth (Bi), Calcium (Ca), Cadmium (Cd), Cobalt (Co), Chromium (Cr), Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Mercury (Hg), Potassium (K), Lanthanum, (La), Magnesium (Mg), Manganese (Mn), Molybdenum (Mo), Sodium (Na), Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), Lead (Pb), Palladium (Pd), Sulfur (S), Antimony (Sb), Scandium (Sc), Strontium (Sr), Thorium (Th), Titanium (Ti), Thalium (Tl), Uranium (U), Vanadium (V), Tungsten (W), Zinc (Zn) and Zirconium (Zr). Because of its varied content, the stones will vary in color, displaying an assortment of translucent purples, gray, clear/opaque, orange- or reds. Depending on which portion of the forest the stones are found or at what depth, will depend on its combination of colors.

Amethyst Elixir

A crystal elixir or gem essence combines the energy of your crystal that is infused in either water or oil. It is often placed in the sun in order for the crystal to imbue the water or oil with the crystal’s energy or Qi and then the decoction is used for healing and anointing.

Here is what you need: A glass container filled with about 12 ounces of water. If you are going to be placing your essence outside, be sure to cover it.   Read more here

Cleansing & Charging Amethyst

~ Cleansing a crystal is always a good idea to rid it of energies (negative or otherwise) that it may have picked up during handling and excessive use.

~ Charging a crystal is bringing its energy levels back up, after use and cleansing. Like re-charging a battery after it has lost its energy.  A great way to do this (and remind you that it is time to do so) is during a full moon.

The Power of Color

Color plays a major role in determining how your crystal can help you.  A crystal’s color is due to its combination of minerals, which give it it’s own personality.  It contributes in what attracts you to it.  The psychological aspects of color determine how a crystal’s healing properties work.
