Kyanite
Properties: Kyanite is considered the “Earth Stone” due to its soothing earth tone colors, as well as its grounding and tranquil nature. The healing benefits depend on the color it comes in. Blue Kyanite is most effective when placed on the Throat Chakra in order to open the throat for communication and self expression. On the Brow (Third Eye) Chakra, it enhances psychic images, foresight, consciousness and meditation. Kyanite is used to answer questions, especially in imagery, such as in vision, dreams or written interpretations. It brings out our natural ability to manifest things into reality via thoughts and visualization.
Folk Remedies: This stone is know for restoring energy balance and quickly creating tranquility due to the fact that it is an energy conduit.
Feng Shui: This stone is most often found in light blue and black, which are both the colors representing Winter, as well as water. Used in the Center direction, according to its “Mother Earth” reputation, it is ideal for grounding, balance and spiritual growth. It is also used in the North to create success. If you wish to effect change in your life, use this in the direction you need it most.
Crystal Cleansing: method 1 – 3 and method 5 – 7
History: Kyanite (Al2SiO5) is formed from Andalusite, (aluminosilicate family), which re-crystallizes when either a decrease in the temperature or increase in the pressure occurs during its creation. Its name comes from the same origin as that of the color cyan, being derived from the Ancient Greek word κύανος. This is generally rendered into English as kyanos or kuanos and means “dark blue”. This splintery stone is most often found in light blue and black and is a variety of the mineral, Disthene.
Kyanite is used primarily in refractory and ceramic products, including porcelain plumbing and dishware. It is also used in electronics, electrical insulators and abrasives.
Kyanite has been used as a semiprecious gemstone, which may display cat’s eye chatoyancy, though this use is limited by its anisotropism and perfect cleavage. Color varieties include recently discovered orange kyanite from Tanzania. The orange color is due to inclusion of small amounts of manganese (Mn3+) in the structure.
Special Note: these particular tumblestones were used by Andrew in a solemn spiritual ceremony in Paris. They were divined at a burial mandala for the infamous spiritist, Allan Kardec. You can read more about Andrew’s Lunch with Allan Kardec!
Black Kyanite
Properties: Black Kyanite is best used for grounding and balance at the Root Chakra. This is where it gets its “Mother Earth” reputation. Black Kyanite has the distinct priveledge of working to initiate kundalini energy from the root of the spine to the top of the crown. It is often found in a natural display resembling the coccyx, which is the triangular arrangement of bone that makes up the very bottom portion of the spine below the sacrum. It represents a vestigial tail, hence the common term tailbone. The root of kundalini energy starts in the lower sacrum and is encouraged by your mind and spirit to rise up and stimulate the energies of the major Chakra centers.

Kundalini Meditation
One of my best mentors, teacher and friend was Zachary Selig. Known as an American artist, author, interior designer and celebrity spiritist, Zachary co-wrote the bestselling, Kundalini Awakening: A Gentle Guide to Chakra Activation and Spiritual Growth
I recall our daily trips to the gym in Miami, where we would go through our morning yoga routine and then Zachary would teach me about how to meditate and get in touch with our Kundalini or primal “shakti” energy. This was our meditation practice:
Cleansing & Charging Kyanite
~ Cleansing a crystal is always a good idea to rid it of energies (negative or otherwise) that it may have picked up during handling and excessive use.
~ Charging a crystal is bringing its energy levels back up, after use and cleansing. Like re-charging a battery after it has lost its energy. A great way to do this (and remind you that it is time to do so) is during a full moon.

The Power of Color
Color plays a major role in determining how your crystal can help you. A crystal’s color is due to its combination of minerals, which give it it’s own personality. It contributes in what attracts you to it. The psychological aspects of color determine how a crystal’s healing properties work.
