History: Bornite (Cu5FeS4), named after Ignaz von Born, an 18th-century mineralogist, who found this rainbow stone in sulfide copper deposits. It is a common ore of copper and is easily recognized because it tarnishes to iridescent shades of blue, purple, green and yellow earning its name, Peacock Ore. This cubic stone has a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale. Bornite occurs widely in porphyry copper deposits along with the more common chalcopyrite. Chalcopyrite and bornite are both typically replaced by chalcocite and covellite in the supergene (occurring relatively near the surface) enrichment zone of copper deposits.
Please note: Peacock Ore is a term used to describe Chalcopyrite or Bornite with a colorful iridescent tarnish effect, which is usually artificially enhanced with acid. Most Peacock Ore is sold as a variety of Bornite, when in fact most Peacock Ore is actually Chalcopyrite.

Cleansing & Charging Chalcopyrite
~ Cleansing a crystal is always a good idea to rid it of energies (negative or otherwise) that it may have picked up during handling and excessive use.
~ Charging a crystal is bringing its energy levels back up, after use and cleansing. Like re-charging a battery after it has lost its energy. A great way to do this (and remind you that it is time to do so) is during a full moon.

The Power of Color
Color plays a major role in determining how your crystal can help you. A crystal’s color is due to its combination of minerals, which give it it’s own personality. It contributes in what attracts you to it. The psychological aspects of color determine how a crystal’s healing properties work.
