If you have ever seen a Kirlian photo image of a plant or vegetable, you will see how these living herbs pulse with a beautiful aura. The integration of crystals along side nature's bounty can be a wonderful benefit for growth and regeneration. By placing these minerals at the base of any plant or burying them along side your vegetables, they can bring an added sense of encouragement and even spirituality to your hard work.
Minerals Used In The Garden
Agate (Moss): is a transparent stone that has inclusions of minerals that make it look like the stone has foliage in its matrix. This pretty stones can make a decorative border around any plant or flower bed.
Boji Stones: are actually a registered trademark of stones discovered in Colorado. The appear smooth on one side (female), while others have small protrusion on one side (male). These pair of stones are many composed of pyrite and palladium and have been used to facilitate growth and encourage telecommunication between plants.
Cerussite: is a mineral, which occasionally resembles trees branching out with icicles.
This stone has been used in gardens and work fields to assist in relieving infestation. It can be used to energize and protect house plants.
Daphnite: has been used by agricultural associations, farmers and growers of herbs, plants and flowers as the stone of transformation and transmutation. It appears to facilitate the communication with the plant world in order to enhance gardens, terrariums and crops of any kind.
Fossils: are the organic materials that have turned to stone. Minerals incorporate into the cellular structures of animals, bones, insects, shells and wood, filling in the spaces and are often found with inclusions of other plants or animals. Fossils are a stamp from the past that can be used to adorn any garden, indoor/outdoor potted plants. Their high mineral content is said to supplement any type of plantings.
Quartz: is considered solidified light and oxygen. Quartz encompasses a large family of stones and crystals, all of which are made up primarily of silicon dioxide, one of the most common and most important substances in the world. This mineral is found over 2/3 of the earth and can be used in many ways throughout your garden. Create beautiful borders. Bury a few quartz points facing upward next to your potted plants. Lay some clear quartz tumbled stones along side your flower garden. Use an elixir (see below) of quartz and water your plants with them. Make a crystal grid (see below) around your field or plant beds to encourage growth, harmony and transform energy.
Sphene: is a mineral that grows in plate-like or wedge shaped form and has been used in grids (see below) to encourage growth.
Tourmaline (Green): is a healing stone that some gem healers consider the strongest of all green stones. It is used to help achieve balance in all areas. Botanists, herbalists, farmers and gardeners have all used this stone to increase the effectiveness of an herb's healing properties. Green tourmaline is said to hold the "essence of the plant kingdom" within it and is used to conduct energy between the earth and the plants for smoother transitions during growth.
Creating A Garden Grid
A 'Grid' is a way to arrange the stones in a sacred geometric pattern. They are then consciously 'activated' by connecting a 'line of Light' between the stones so that they radiate an energy field in the immediate environment in which they are constructed. Those of you who are sensitive to energy will be able to tell immediately that there is a shift of energy in the area where you construct a Grid. Depending on which stones you choose, there will either be a gentle shift... or a very tangible one.
Creating a Sacred Space
We live and work in a variety of environments. Many of these environments have a specific function to fulfill that can be consciously and energetically supported. The current attention on Feng Shui and similar 'getting the energy in the room just right' techniques have shown that we, as a society, are becoming more aware of how our immediate spaces can either be harmonious or disharmonious to our goals. Constructing a Crystalline Grid in your garden or an environment that supports the function of the area is yet another way to contribute to the overall energy flow.
You may to add a Grid that supports harmony in your garden or a general feelings of love and comfort. There are no right or wrongs. Choose the space. Familiarizing yourself with the various metaphysical properties of minerals can be very helpful to you as you make your choices. You can get a nice list of stones you may want to use and then use a pendulum to figure out which ones would be the most effective for you.
The first thing to do is develop clear intent of the purpose of your grid.
Hold your crystals in your hands at heart level. Say a prayer of intention or affirmation that will program these stones to work their highest good for your garden.
Place them in a formation. Consider using sacred symbols around your plant or garden such as a star, a circle, a cross or a square. Save one crystal before placing it into the earth.
To connect the grid lines, start by pointing the last crystal toward the first stone you laid down. Holding it a few inches above the grid, draw a line of energy, that connects each crystal you have laid out. Once you have traced these energy lines over your stones, plant the last crystal in your hand into the earth.
Making Crystal Elixirs
Crystal concoctions or elixirs are the recipes of the past. It is recommended to place clean stones or crystals into clean, clear distilled water and place it in the morning sun through the day and into the night of a full moon for 24 hours. This allows the (male) sun energy and (female) moon energy to reflect through the water and into the crystals therefore charging the water with this vibrational force of light and color.
After 24 hours, place this elixir into a dark glass bottle and use it to water your plants, flowers and vegetables.
Quartz crystals such as clear, rose, amethyst, citrine and smokey all respond very favorably to a water and light remedy method. They also offer a complete light spectrum within them. The best for healing.

Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway) is the ancient Chinese art of placement to enhance the flow of "vital life energy" known as Qi. Practitioners believe that rooms, buildings and all environments can be arranged and decorated in a way that maximizes the flow of Qi and resulting in improvements to health and happiness of those who live in that environment. Although the translation of Feng Shui basically means "Wind and Water", its scope and breathe are much deeper than this. We Feng Shui our homes and our office, burial grounds and schools, the garden is another place that lends great balance to our lives.
I often like to introduce the Five Element Phase Theory into a Garden Setting. This natural progression just seems to make so much sense. The Five Phases (Elements) Theory, which states there are five interrelated elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood is one of
Feng Shui's oldest and respected theories.
The following are the ways (or cycles) in which the elements are
interrelated. These are the two balanced/physiological cycles:
"Sheng"-Generating/Nourishing (Creative) Cycle
In this cycle, one element generates/nourishes or creates the
following element. The nourished element is also known as the child
element. The nourishing element is known as the mother element. This
is an important aspect of Feng Shui and Traditional Chinese
Medicine. The pattern is:
* Fire nourishes earth
* Earth nourishes metal
* Metal nourishes water
* Water nourishes wood
* Wood nourishes fire
"Ke"-Controlling (Destructive) Cycle
Even as each element nourishes another, it also controls an element.
The controlling element is sometimes referred to as the grandmother
element. This cycle is as follows:
* Fire controls metal
* Metal controls wood
* Wood controls earth
* Earth controls water
* Water controls fire
Each element has a direction, which can help in dividing the garden into five directions and corresponding elements. By looking at the elements that are in the different areas, we can then see if an element is missing from a particular direction. It is also a possibility that a controlling element is present, which can therefore cause the element for that direction to be weakened. For example, fire's direction is south, so a pond or fountain located in the south of the yard would severely weaken the fire element.
Water's direction is north. Wood's directions are east and southeast. Fire's direction is south. Earth's directions are northeast, southwest and the center. Metal's directions are west and northwest.
Elements may be adjusted by adding the appropriate color of plant, element or shape to the area. Therefore, water may be assisted by adding a fountain in the north. Red flowers in the south would enhance fire. A wind chime in the west and white flowers in the northwest would enhance the metal element. Tall, thin trees in the east and a wooden arbor in the southeast can be used to strengthen wood. A stone sculpture as the centerpiece of the garden with yellow flowers in the northeast and decorative rocks in the southwest would
add the balancing touch.
Here is a good reference chart of "cures" for the elements:
The Wood Element
* All plants
* Wooden furniture, decks, fencing, and pathways
* Arbors, wooden gazebos, trellises
* Rattan and wicker
* Stripes and floral prints
* Columnar and long, thin shapes
* Blues and greens
The Fire Element
* All lighting, including oil, electrical, and candles
* Fireplaces and barbecues
* Pets and wildlife
* Statuary and garden art depicting people and animals
* Triangular and conical shapes
* Reds
The Earth Element
* Brick, tile, and adobe
* Earthenware pots and garden art
* Square and rectangular shapes
* Yellows and earth tones
The Metal Element
* Metal furniture, fencing, and statuary, sculpture
* Metal wind chimes
* Rocks, stones, and sand
* Circular, oval, and arched shapes
* White and pastels
The Water Element
* All water features: birdbaths, fountains, ponds
* Reflective surfaces, such as glass, crystal, and mirrors
* Asymmetrical, free-form shapes
* Black and dark tones
As a general fact: most gardens already tend to have an over abundance of Wood element in them. Try to balance out this element with aspects of each of the other elements.
If you are confused as to which items to use in each direction, I highly believe in meditating on it. Sit in front of your garden. Cross your legs in a comfortable nature and close your eyes. Take several deep breaths in and slowly out through your nose. Take your time and simply visualize your perfect garden. What feels "right " to you? At some point Listen to the sounds around you. At some point Smell the air around you. Allow your intuition to guide you.
Breath. Take your time. 5 minutes, 7 minutes, 15 minutes. Let your mind quiet.
At your own pace, slowly open your eyes.
This is a great way to visualize what you really want. Then, when you go back and compare it to the "cures" chart above you may be surprised as to how "right" you have allowed your instincts to be!
Happy gardening!

Gift baskets are special baskets for special people when they are made with someone in mind. A gift basket works well all year long. For birthdays with birthday related items and birthday wrappings, for the Fourth of July with a patriotic theme and lots of red, white, and
blue. What about Halloween? It's getting to be a huge holiday. There's a chance to really get creative with your gift basket. The choices are endless.
If you know an avid golfer, then choose golf related items. These could include: balls, tees, golf towel, shirt, golf club covers, and any other golf related items which will fit into the gift basket.
What about that gardener that you know. A nice gift basket of seeds, gardening tools, small flower pots, gloves. There are a lots of nice items to make a beautiful gift basket. Tie a big, flowered bow on it
and and give it with pride.
Of course, Christmas is always a good time to make and give that special someone, whether it be husband, wife, mother, father, child, or friend, a gift basket that you make with him or her in mind. All you need to do is think about what his or her interests and likes are and start finding the items for the gift basket.
Maybe she is a tea drinker. Then put together a gift basket with flavored teas. There are lots of choices. Include a pretty tea cup and maybe some packets of sugar and cream. Put some pretty filler in the basket, include the items, tie a pretty bow on the gift basket, include a card, and it's done.
The same thing can be done for a coffee drinker. Make a gift basket with different coffees and hot chocolate mixes. But avoid chocolate and items that will melt. A favorite gift basket for bakers is muffin mixes and assorted packages of crackers in a handmade muffin or
cracker basket.
Candle Gift Basket
This candle gift basket can be modified to use at any holiday but this is an example for Christmas candle gift baskets. This gift basket can start off with one focal candle. Try to find one that is very decorative. For Christmas that can mean santas, angels, candy canes, snowflakes, snowmen, Christmas trees, and numerous others.
Then pick out one scent and find various candles different sizes) to fill in the basket. Some favorite scents for the holiday season are pine, cranberry, gingerbread, cinnamon, and sugar cookies. There are many more out there that are related to Christmas but you can use any
scent you want.
Cookie Gift Basket
What Christmas holiday would be complete without Christmas cookies? Christmas cookie gift baskets are an excellent way to give a little something special to friends and neighbors without being to expensive. The focal point of a Christmas cookie gift baskets is always decorated sugar cookies. You can have so much fun cutting them out and decorating them. Looking out for fun new cookie cutters or ways to decorate them is half the fun. Kids can get involved in the decorating too!! Use one recipe that you especially like to use as your base, then build around that.
Decorate the Tree Gift Basket
If you give a decorate the tree gift basket you will need to deliver it early. Some traditions decorate the tree on Christmas eve and celebrate the day of the kings. Here are some ideas for you to make your own. This is one of the easiest gift baskets to make because the possibilities are endless!! You can add ornaments, candles, a Christmas CD, some hot cocoa, candy canes, garland, bows, even some
homemade Christmas cookies. Because of all the pretty colors they look so good when they are made up. One thing to include in your decorate the tree gift baskets is an ornament with the year on it. You can encourage them to pick out a special ornament each year so their tree begins to be filled with memories of past Christmas'. This
is a great gift idea for young couples just starting out that may not have many decorations yet.
Twas the Night Before Christmas Basket
One of my all time favorite gift baskets that I have made is one that is for the whole family. It is especially fitting for a family that anticipates Santa's arrival!! This is such a simple basket to make and the whole family can enjoy it. Of course the main "ingredient" in this basket is a copy of "the night before Christmas" of course.
Include enough hot chocolate and cookies for the whole family to enjoy while reading the story. Add in a candle or a pretty ornament if you find one that you feel fits the occasion. One other thing you can include is a pretty Christmas plate with Santa on it. That way if they want to they can leave Santa a cookie or two on it. Also include a couple bags of microwave popcorn into it as well, then
decorate it with pretty ribbon and a bow. One added touch is on the card, write the name of everyone in the family. This adds more fun to the kids to see their own names on the card.
Angel Gift Basket
Need a unique Christmas gift basket idea? Why not send angel gift baskets. Angel gift baskets are pretty and can be enjoyed all year round actually. If you are making the gift baskets for Christmas gift giving you can use any central theme. Santas, candy canes, snowmen, whatever you like, Angels are a great idea for the fact that they are
thought of at Christmas and are guardians for all times. You can find candles with almost any design and should be able to include one of those easily. Include an angel Christmas tree ornament as well as anything else that has to do with angels. You will find figurines, plaques, dolls, pictures, teacups, and stationary. Bake sugar
cookies and add a dozen or so angel sugar cookies to the baskets. As you are doing your Christmas shopping be on the lookout for items for making gift baskets.
Bath Gift Basket
Everyone deserves a little pampering and you can make a friend feel special this Christmas holiday by giving them a bath gift basket. You can always find great bath products but this is especially true around the Christmas holidays. This makes it easy to make bath gift baskets. You can focus on one scent and build from there. Some of the items to put in your bath gift baskets are candles, bubble bath, soap, lotion, hand cream, foot cream, bath oil, loofahs, back brushes, the list is endless for what you can add to them. You can sometimes add a puzzle book or a good paperback to them.
Crystal Gift Basket
Crystals are a fun and brillant gift that can sparkle and awe inspire anyone you give it to. You can start with a beautiful crystal cluster or tall obelisk in the center. Add some crystal spheres, tumblestones, crystal hearts, crystal animals or any special gemstone you think your friend or family would like. You can string a beautiful crystal necklace at the top handle of the basket to drop
down into the center.
Have fun making these gift basket ideas! Come up with your own themed basket. Yes, it is great to receive a gift, but you can have a good time creating your own, to give!!
by Jean-Claude van Itallie
What happened to considerations of good and evil? I seem to remember in my long-ago formal education, trying to distinguish them. How to recognize evil when you encounter it, despite seductive disguises? I considered this question in the 70's writing a play called "A Fable." If our innocent heroine, questing to kill evil, finally encountered the Beast itself, how ever could she recognize it?
Certain characteristics reveal the presence of evil. Evil is speedy, skims the surface, doesn't pause for breath. It is cerebral merely, abstract - a decapitated head unattached to feeling. Like Dickens in "Bleak House" smelling evil in the dusty law records of Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce, we can find it in roundabout tax laws with loopholes for the richest corporations, in credit card contracts tricking us into accepting usury, in the fine print of mortgage agreements designed to evict, in crippling student loan contracts constructed to enrich banks, in insurance documents that exclude healing human suffering in favor of "the health industry," whatever that is.
Evil is non-empathetic - unable to feel other people's pain, to see that others are as entitled as itself. We find it in the smug reassurances of bankers announcing they're merely conducting their daily capitalist business when employing armies of lobbyists to repeal financial regulatory laws, and themselves becoming heads of government agencies charged with regulating the banks.
We find it in a weapons industry and a government deaf to the cries of children and others wounded in a bombing, or of women raped.
Evil is in Jamestown, Pennsylvania in a company blandly named "Combined Systems" which manufactures and sells tons of tear gas to the Egyptian army who use it to maim protestors in Tahir Square.
Evil doesn't care about Global Warming, won't hear about developing alternate energy sources.
Evil lies in the self-justifying pompous speeches of dictators, of gray-faced mayors and governors perpetuating their own power.
Alright, already. So what is good?
Good is Occupy Wall Street and related public gatherings of non-violent citizens who have found their voice, our voice, (the 99%). Good is gentle but firm like a good mother's hand. Good is in creating art and in singing. Good is in listening to and interacting with others - in General Assembly, on Facebook and Twitter. Good is in community, in helping oneself and others through mindful, kind, spontaneous action. Good is the magnetic atmosphere that draws many of us to be with, in, and around Occupy locales.
Two days ago police violently evicted Occupy Los Angeles, arresting 300. They arrested 50 in Philadelphia where one horrified occupier described police arriving "on five huge horses" (Apocalypse, anyone?) trampling his girlfriend. So far in the United States 5000 occupiers have been arrested.
On a New York public access cable channel, I watched footage, with no accompanying commentary, of a small group of occupiers sitting in front of Goldman Sachs. (This footage is another laudable example of the ubiquitous anonymous communication of events around Occupy Wall Street.) The occupiers sat calmly, arms linked, on the ground. Then, one by one arrested, accompanied by a burly armed police person, each occupier - some carried, some walking - was cheered by the crowd.
I watched the expression on the policemen's and policewomen's faces as they went about their duties. The police looked unhappy, bewildered perhaps. "The criminals are inside!" chanted the occupiers. When this truth fully settles in the imagination of the 99%, including the police - the power citadels will crumble.

This is a self awareness exercise. I started this in my practice in New York City over 10 years ago. It has always been an offering to my patients who come in during the week of Thanksgiving for treatment. I would ask them to take home this handout and to fill it out in their private time. If they were interested in doing a little self attunement exercise, this would be the ideal time, as we can be more conscious of the benefits we receive in our lives.
At this time in my life, things maybe going great or they may not be the best. Regardless, TODAY I am grateful for:

Herbs have been apart of humanity since the dawn of time in the form
of food and is viewed as medicine. One-fourth of allopathic medicines
are still derived from plants or are synthetic copies of substances
originally identified in nature. After centuries of use, herbs
continue to play a vital role in promoting health in modern times.
The power of Green Whole Foods is essential for all day energy,
greater focus under stress, sense of well-being, strengthened immune
system, fewer food cravings and optimum synergistic balance of
essential nutrients for total health. Green whole foods are usually a
powder that contain antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids,
active enzymes, bioflavinoids, chlorophyll and other phytonutrients
necessary for optimal cellular metabolism, repair and protection!
These ingredients contain the most powerful combination of nutrients
ever known in any grain, herb or food. They contain almost all of the
vitamins, minerals, proteins and enzymes necessary for the human
diet, plus chlorophyll.
There are many green whole foods on the market today. They are all
geared toward increasing your fiber and chlorophyll intake.
Additionally, there are several products that are specific to
increasing metabolic energy, cleansing and/or detoxing with the
addition of certain herbs for specific outcomes. Here is a list of
some of the most popular and beneficial ingredients in the majority
of these products:
Spirulina Blue Green Algae: Spirulina possesses a complete protein richer than steak, abundant organically complex minerals, a wide variety of essential vitamins, and many beneficial enzymes. Spirulina is more than just a food. As with Chlorella it has been shown to be valuable with almost every aspect of health. Chlorella Green Algae: Chlorella's tough cell wall protects the valuable nucleus inside. When it is harvested it is instantly dried and the cell walls are gently cracked open. The nutrients inside retain full potency. Once in your body, the cracked open cells release their valuable nutrients. Because it is so easy to digest, your cells get the full benefit of this nutritional powerhouse. These necessities are bio-available which means that they are easily assimilated throughout the digestive tract, giving instant access to vital nutrients. The algae provides intestinal nourishment and has a soothing and healing effect on the mucous lining. It works to detoxify and purify our system.
Barley Grass and Wheat Grass: Eating barley and wheat grass is like eating a plate of green vegetables. These cereal grasses, are harvested young and are ecologically grown in nutrient rich soil. They are approximately 25% protein and contains all the essential amino acids, concentrated vitamins, minerals and fiber. They have been shown to increase our overall health by reducing intestinal putrefaction and maintaining healthy blood another important component of cleansing.
Klamath Lake Blue Green Algae: This remarkable plant grows 100% organically in the Upper Klamath Lake of Oregon. Blue Green Algae has more protein and chlorophyll by weight than any other plant or animal on earth. Klamath Lake algae is considered to be the most nutrient rich of the algaes.
Psyllium Husks: A natural plant source of dietary fiber essential for the proper functioning of the digestive system. Fiber significantly lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels.
Lecithin: Lecithin is produced naturally and is one of the main substances that digests cholesterol in the human body. Lecithin supports the liver and aids in the metabolism of fat. Lecithin is used to strengthen the heart as it clears the blood vessels of cholesterol. It also useful as part of a weight loss programs to help dissolve fat.
Buckthorn Bark: Acts on the liver, gallbladder, blood and intestines. Has a stimulating effect on the bile and conditions of the, liver, gallbladder and lower bowels; does not gripe and keeps the bowels regular without irritation.
Burdock: Supports the blood, kidneys and liver. A natural blood purifier which eliminates uric acid and excess waste material. Burdock is quite effective in treating dry and scaly skin disorders such as psoriasis, dandruff and eczema, also helps break sown calcification in joints.

Milk Thistle Seed: Containing silybum marianum which has proven its ability to protect and rebuild the liver. The liver is a key organ in cleansing because it is involved in detoxifying the body and the digestion of fat.
Acidophilus: The normal, healthy colon contains "friendly" bacteria (85% lactobacillus and 15% coliform bacteria). It is the friendly bacterial flora found in yogurt and is essential to the digestive system. When these bacteria are not in balance, then the person may experience bloating, flatulence, constipation, and malabsorption of nutrients. Acidophilus taken as a dietary supplement may help to detoxify and to rebuild a balanced intestinal flora. It is used for the prevention of Candida as well as for treatment. Acidophilus aids the digestion and helps to replace the "friendly" intestinal flora.
